SUPREME COURT DECLARES INSTANT TALAQ UNLAWFUL
The Islamic practice of instant talaq has been termed unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. A 3:2 majority of a five-judge bench concluded that it is void, illegal and objectionable. Many are considering this move beneficial for Muslim women. The Shariat Practice is against Article 14 of the Constitution, which Guarantees the right to equality.
