Canada Work Permit Visa allows foreign nationals to work and live in the country. It does not permit an individual to settle in the nation permanently. The visa is categorized as Open Work Permit and Employer Specific Work Permit.
Open Work Permit
An individual is allowed to work for any employer without having a confirmed offer of employment with an Open Work Permit. It is not job specific. An open work permit does not require Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). A proof that an employer has submitted an offer of employment through the Employer Portal and paid the employer compliance fee is not required.
Employer Specific Work Permit
Employer Specific Work Permit admits you to work in accordance with the conditions mentioned on your work permit which include the name of the employer you can work for, duration of time you can work and the destination where you can work. Before hiring a foreign worker for Employer Specific– Canadian Work Permit an employer is required to obtain Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) from the federal human resources authorities. They often need to acquire a Labour Market Opinion (LMO) from HRSDC (Human Resources and Skills Development Canada) to recruit a foreign worker.
It is easier to file an application for Canada Permanent Residency Visa with Work Permit.
